Roundtable entitled The Myths, Truths and Realities that Change Lives: Educating Young Men of Color in the 21st Century (Please see attachment)

The Local District West will host a roundtable entitled The Myths, Truths and Realities that Change Lives: Educating Young Men of Color in the 21st Century. This much needed discussion will focus on the beliefs, practices and experiences that are most critical to educating young men of color as they prepare for post-secondary college and career opportunities. The panel will consist of prominent educational and community leaders who will lead the discussion in reinforcing the sense of urgency around this topic while identifying next steps. Their expertise will provide insight and perspective that will greatly advance this grand conversation.

The following information is for 8th grade parents and students only:
Ø 8th Grade Culmination will be on friday june 9th –
o 9:00 AM (Based on Homeroom Teacher’s Last Name M-Z)
o 1:30 PM (Based on Homeroom Teacher’s Last Name A-L)
o Only 2 tickets per student based on current eligibility

For 1 extra ticket, students must bring 3 JB uniform collared tops and 3 JB uniform bottoms that are washed.

PE uniforms will not be accepted.

Spring Concert

Tomorrow, Wednesday May 24th will be our Spring Music Concert. The concert will take place at John Burroughs Middle School in the auditorium at 6pm. The PTA will be fundraising for the music program before the concert starting at 3:30pm, with food items for sale. We are asking for parent donations of food items that we can sell to help support the music program. Food items must be packaged and sealed. If you would like to donate something to sell at the concert, please drop off in the morning in Room 109 and label music.
We are also accepting monetary donations for the music program. If you would like to Donate please put the money in an envelope with your name and the amount and drop off in the lock box in room 109 in the morning, and then the main office throughout the school day. You can also donate before the concert in the PTA lockbox in front of the auditorium. Ask the parent volunteers who will be in front of the auditorium if you have questions. Thank you very much for your support and we hope to see you there. The concert is open for all families to attend. Please be advised that all students must be accompanied by an adult. On Thursday, August 3, 2017, John Burroughs Middle School will be hosting the JB Bear Boot Camp for the 2017-2018 school year.

During this time, 6th grade students and students who are new to the JB family will get a firsthand account of the academic life and expectations in middle school and also will be provided a tour of our campus. SPACE IS LIMITED. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. TRANSPORTATION MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE PARENT.
